LIVEWIRE Brunei Business Awards was organised specifically for young and enterprising people in Brunei Darussalam to gain excellent opportunities to participate in an activity that tested their ability, adaptability and skills while promoting themselves and their business ideas.
Speaking to the Bulletin was Lindsey, the first place winner for category A6 (open category). She said that she shared her joy with her teammates who are continuing their studies overseas. “I feel great! ” she exclaimed.
The group business proposal was on building the first ‘Splash Water Park’ in Brunei. She said that the proposal was intended for the development of the Tourism Industry by introducing something “big and different for Brunei”, which would also attract more tourists by diversifying places of interest in the nation.
Some of the challenges faced by the team included “getting the right land from the land department and determining the location of the water park”, said Lindsey who came up with the idea with her teammates whilst they were still studying in University Brunei Darussalam.
When asked on the appropriateness of building the water park as opposed to the MIB concept, especially for women, she suggested the new `Muslim Swimming Suit’, could be worn by female patrons. She also suggested the allocation of a `women only’ area in the water park as another option.
“But people want to have fun in one family or even in a group, so I think wearing the proper attire would be ideal in these circumstances,” she added.
Meanwhile in an interview with Mohd Redzuan bin Haji Abdaul Razak, first place winner for category A5 (LiveWIRE Course Participants), he came up with a proposal for a local manpower suppply called Monchoi Employment Solutions intended for the development of human resources.
“Time is one of the challenges I faced during the preparation of my business proposal since I’m doing it individually. I give praise to all the support provided by the relevant authorities, especially LiveWIRE who helped me,” he said.
“It’s also a matter of convincing people that my agency is not like any other employment agency. One of the aims of the agency is to help locals to find employment, therefore the first six months of its operations will be based on gaining the trust and respect from applicants,” he said when commenting on the challenges that he will be facing after starting up the business.
Another proud group from Co Network Advertising Agency competing in category A4, Institutions of Higher Learning (UBD and ITB) were so shocked after they unexpectedly won the trophy.
“I think the judging process was really tough. We were given a very hard time by some of the judges but we managed to fight our way through the other teams in our group,” said Mohammad Aji bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who recently graduated from Institute Technology Brunei (ITB) together with his teammates. “It is a double celebration for us!” said one of the team members.
The team told the Bulletin that the nature of business for Co network Advertising Agency revolves around an “advertising agency where we compile information from all interested parties, whether they come from private or government sectors or even individuals, to advert into our publication”.
“The key we use is ‘Instant rewards’. People like to hear that, this is how we attract our readers and we consider this our main advantage,” said Mohammad Aji.
“We like to thank our senior lecturers from ITB, facilitators, friends and families for their continual support,” he added.
This is the sixth time the LiveWIRE Brunei Business Awards has been organised, and is fully funded by Brunei Shell Petroleum Sendirian Berhad (BSP) |
