LiveWIRE Underscores Planning in Business

andar Seri Begawan -Without a business module or planning, you have no direction. And without direction, you're notgoing anywhere with your business, as the term 'headless thicken' implies. You run around without knowing where to go.

This was stated by the Programme Director of Live WIRE Brunei, Pg Redzuan Pg Hj Abbas, in his speech at the certificate presentation ceremony forthe "Becoming a Successful Owner-Manager (BSOM) Workshop 2010" yesterday, at the Live WIRE Centre in Berakas.

A total of 13 participants successfully completed the four-day programme which was designed to develop an effective business mindset among budding entrepreneurs and interested youths throughout the country. The programme began on March 8 and ended yesterday.

"In the past four days, we had shared ideas and knowledge on the foundations of business_ this is just a small part," said Pg Redzuan. "What we are trying to do is to 'alert' you on areas where you need to build the business ideas into an actual business." The programme director added tha: there are three major influences when venturing into a business: passion, creating an expert field within the business and a business module with which proper planning can be carried out.

The workshop featured talks by invited local speakers representing several private and public sector organisations including Borneo United Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Saccamas Sdn Bhd, Lilli Lingerie, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Bank Islam Brunei Berhad, WMK Management Resources, Hidayah IT Learning Centre and the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

According to the organisers, the speakers touched on various aspects of business development based on their experiences. Dk Farah Amirah Pg Redzuan, 18, the programme's youngest participant, said that the workshop was a great opportunity for her to gain a deeper sense of business knowledge, especially from the speakers.

"It is a whole new- different thing for me," she said in an interview with the Bulletin. Dk Farah had previously attended the "Bright Ideas" workshop another programme organised by LiveWIRE Brunei. - "A lot of people think that it is hard to grow a business in Brunei," she added.

"But after listen* to these local entrepreneurs who had shared their success stories, I'm more inspired now than before," she added. Dk Farah now plans to attend the three-day LiveWIRE Leadership Camp, held at Sumbiting Eco-Village from March 26-28.

Suni Sulaiman, 49, a part-time businessman from Tutong said that he did not only learn new things about business through the workshop, but had also made new business contacts. "Networking is important in business, and I have built contacts from the participants as well as the invited speakers," he said "They came and gave practical tips on how to form your business and make it a solid business. I considered it as the highlight of the four-day workshop."

Suni also encouraged people who are new in business to join the BSOM workshop. According to the organisers, there will be other BSOM workshops to be held every year. Upcoming events include the LiveWIRE Leadership Camp (March 26-28) and "KK Run" (climbing Mount Kinabalu) which is to be held from April 13-17.
