The LiveWIRE Awards 2004, an annual business awards competition for young people of Brunei (aged 18-30 years old) who are planning to venture or who have succeeded in a business activity, was launched on 6th July 2004. Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Hj Sheikh Adnan Sheikh Muhammad was the chief guest who officially launched the LiveWIRE Awards 2004 and witnessed the Joint Sponsorship Agreement. Deputy Managing Director of BSP, Hj Zainal Abidin Hj Md Ali signed on behalf of BSP. HSBC was represented by Chief Executive Officer Marcus Hurry.
LiveWIRE's first awards in 2001 was fully funded by BSP. The following year, HSBC became a joint sponsor. This is the third year the bank has agreed to jointly sponsor the awards in cooperation with BSP.
The programme is an excellent opportunity for young people to participate in an activity that will test their ability, adaptability and skills. It promotes themselves and their business / business ideas. They will get the chance to gain recognition and at the same time win attractive prizes. The Business Awards Competition is divided into the Business Start-up and the Business Plan Competition. The Business Start-up (Category B) is for people already running a business. The Business Plan (Category A) is divided into six sub-categories instead of four as in the previous year. Forms 4 - 5 students this year need not compete with Form 6 students. They are now divided separately. Technical / Vocational college students too need not compete with UBD and ITB students as in the previous year. They are also divided separately. The remaining two sub-categories are the LiveWIRE course participants and the Open Category.
This new format is hoped to create greater interest and involvement from schools and educational institutions this year.
Closing date for submission is October 29, 2004. The Awards Ceremony is set for December 2004. This is also an opportunity for university graduates and unemployed young people to prove their capabilities.
